Home electrical maintenance and repairs

What it is

Not every job is a rewire. Our NICEIC-registered electricians take on the everyday maintenance, repairs and upgrades that keeps a home safe and working: extra sockets, new lighting, kitchen and bathroom electrics, fuse board changes and fault finding.

Every repair and upgrade gets the same care as a big project: boots off or overshoes on, dust sheets down, tidy work, testing and the right certificate at the end.

Our electricians are based in Ivybridge and look after homes across Plymouth, the South Hams and South Devon, from fault finding and one-off repairs to EICRs and regular upkeep.

Who it suits

  • Homeowners with a list of jobs around the house
  • Anyone with tripping, flickering or dead circuits
  • Kitchen and bathroom refits
  • Landlords and holiday-let owners
  • Buyers settling into a new home

What we do

What we’re asked for most

If it’s not on the list, just ask. If it’s electrical and in your home, we can usually help.

Fault finding and repairs

Tripping RCDs, flickering lights, dead sockets or a burning smell? We trace the cause with proper testing, fix it for good and make sure everything is safe before we leave.

If something smells hot or is sparking, switch it off at the fuse board if it’s safe to do so and get it checked before using it again.

Extra sockets, USB and outdoor sockets

More sockets where you actually need them, USB sockets by the bed or desk, and weatherproof outdoor sockets for the garden, all wired and protected to current regulations.

Lighting, inside and out

New ceiling lights, downlights, under-cabinet and feature lighting, dimmers, outdoor and security lighting. We help you plan where it goes and what it’s controlled by.

Kitchen electrics

New kitchens need the right circuits for ovens, hobs and appliances, plus sockets and lighting in the right places. We work with your kitchen fitter so first fix happens before the walls are finished and second fix slots in at the end.

Bathroom electrics

Bathrooms have their own rules because water and electricity don’t mix. We fit lighting, extractor fans, shaver sockets, heated towel rails and electric shower circuits with the right protection and suitably rated fittings for each zone.

Fuse board (consumer unit) changes

Old boards with fuse wire, no RCD protection or a failed EICR? We replace consumer units to current regulations, test every circuit and certify the work.

Smoke and heat alarms

Mains-powered, interlinked smoke and heat alarms, fitted where they’ll do their job.

EICRs and safety checks

Need an Electrical Installation Condition Report for a let, a sale or peace of mind? That has its own page. See EICR & PAT testing.

Typical prices

How we price repairs and odd jobs

For jobs where the time is hard to pin down but should be a few hours, an hourly rate is the fairest and most honest way to price them.

Hourly rateThen £65 per hour£85 first hour
Odd jobsTypically 2 hours: a socket, an outdoor socket, a light fitting, a smoke or heat alarm, small bits and bobsAbout £150
Fuse board change (domestic)Typically £650
Fuse board change + EICRA discounted EICR: you save £100Typically £800
Site survey with written reportUp to 1 hour on site and 1 hour of paperwork, then £65/hr. A report on the safety and functionality of your existing installation, with findings and/or drawings of what you could have£150

Fuse board prices can be less for small boards (for example a flat with about 4 circuits), and more for multiple boards, earthing upgrades or larger 15–20-way boards.

A site survey report is optional. Quotes are still free.

Your certificate

You get a Minor Works Certificate or an Electrical Installation Certificate, depending on the job. Keep it safe; you may need it when you sell.

FAQs

Common questions

Do you take on single repairs and quick jobs?

Yes, we do, and no job is too small! From one faulty socket to a list of jobs around the house, we’ll give you the same tidy, certified work as on a big project.

Can you do a few jobs in one visit?

Yes, and it usually makes sense! Send us your list when you get in touch and we’ll plan the visit so everything is sorted in one go where we can.

Can you help with my new kitchen or bathroom?

Yes, absolutely! We work alongside your fitter so the electrics go in at the right stages, and we certify everything at the end.

Will I get a certificate for a repair or upgrade?

Yes, you will! Most repairs and upgrades come with a Minor Works Certificate, and anything that needs Part P notification is notified for you.

Do you do EICRs too?

Yes, we do! Landlord, sale and peace-of-mind EICRs have their own page. See EICR & PAT testing.
